Description
Sheer white silk commemorative ribbon is stamped with black images and text. "Hope" is stamped across the top of the ribbon. An illustration of a woman dressed in an 18th-century gown and leaning against an anchor is stamped below. "In Honor of the Founders and Defenders of American Independence" appears directly below the woman. Two rectangular portraits are featured side by side in the center of the ribbon, one of George Washington and one of the Marquis de Lafayette. "It's the star spangled banner o'long may it wave, o'er the land of the free & the home of the brave" is printed below the two portraits. A larger, ovular portrait of General William Henry Harrison is featured in the bottom half of the ribbon with the following text printed directly below: "Son of Benj. A. Harrison, one of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence, July 4th, 1776." A log cabin motif is printed at the bottom of the ribbon above the text, "E.P. Whaites, 1 Courtlandt St." Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
