Description

This drawing is an editorial cartoon published in the Dayton, Ohio, Journal-Herald on February 12, 1964, in memory of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy just two months previous. The cartoon features President Abraham Lincoln, who was assassinated on April 14, 1865, standing solemnly, head down and with hat off, and a book in his left hand. The book titled "Profiles in Courage," was written by J.F.K. Lincoln's left hand rests on the back of an empty rocking chair directly in front of him. A left profile of President John F. Kennedy is to the viewer's right. The artist signature is parallel with Lincoln's left leg. The title is written in blue pencil in the upper margin. The year is also written in blue pencil in the upper right corner. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
