Description

This colored lithograph depicts the artist's version of the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln at Ford's Theatre on April 14, 1865. From the viewer's left to right are Major Henry Rathbone with his left hand in the air pointing toward the intruder. Miss Clara Harris is seated next and is looking at Mrs. Lincoln who is seated next to her and facing the stage. President Lincoln also facing the stage is seated next to his wife with his left hand resting on the flag draped at the side of the presidential box. John Wilkes Booth is depicted standing behind the president with a dagger in his left hand a smoking gun in his right hand at the back of Lincoln's head. The people shown are identified just below the image. The title and publisher's information are printed in the lower margin.
