This color lithograph depicts Abraham Lincoln on the right and Secretary Seward on the left, signing the Proclamation of Freedom January 1, 1863. The two are seated around a green cloth-covered table; a gold inkwell and two red books rest on the table. Under the full title printed in the bottom margin is the following: "Upon this act, I invoke the considerate judgment of mankind, and the gracious favor of Almighty God."
