Mary Lincoln, 1863

Mary and Abraham had 4 children: Robert, Edward “Eddy,” William “Willie,” and Thomas “Tad.” Ever the mother and supporter, Mary cared for her children as her husband grew in his political ambitions. Mary quickly learned that there would be many hardships ahead. In February 1850, Eddy Lincoln died at age 4. In February 1862, Willie died at age 11. In April 1865, Abraham was assassinated. In 1871, Tad died. Mary had lost everyone, save her oldest son, Robert.
