Louisa May Alcott
Louisa May Alcott (1832–1888) was a successful author whose novel Little Women and its sequels were tremendously successful during her lifetime and remain popular a century and a half later. In these and other writings, she supported women’s independence with her strong, smart female characters. Her first literary success was Hospital Sketches (1863), collected from her brief time as a wartime nurse.
