Lincoln's Home in Springfield
As soon as news of Lincoln’s death reached Springfield, the Lucian Tilton family, who were renting the Lincoln home, draped the house in simple mourning, as seen in the image on the left. In preparation for the funeral services to be held when Lincoln’s body reached the city, Springfield officials had the Lincoln home more elaborately decorated, as seen on the right.
