The Richmond Evening Whig
By Thursday, April 6, the situation in Richmond was stable under Union military command. The Richmond Evening Whig of that day explained the recent military and governmental developments, events in Richmond after the Confederate retreat, and updates on life in the city. The newspaper contained useful information about which Union leaders are in charge and how to find them, the change in market prices for produce, the imminent return of gas power to the city after the massive fire the night that Richmond fell, and plans to clean up the city. Life carried on for the citizens of Richmond, even after its famous figureheads escaped.
