Mary Todd Lincoln with Abraham Lincoln's "Spirit"
This photograph, taken by “spirit photographer” William H. Mumler of Boston in 1872, portrays the widow Mary protected by her loving husband’s spirit. After Tad's death, Mary embarked on a tour across New England. On this journey, she consulted mediums and other spiritualists in hopes of contacting with her lost loved ones. To Mary, this photograph confirmed the eternal connection between herself and her husband.
