Winfield Scott and the Anaconda Plan
Winfield Scott was the original chief General for the Union army in the Civil War. His age and health were major factors for being removed of this position. Scott’s most important contribution to the war effort was his strategy known as the “Anaconda Plan.” This was the partitioning off of southern resources and southern economy through means of blockade. This plan would slowly strangle the southern war effort and require concessions.
