A Tense Painting

This artwork reveals a standoff between Lincoln and McClellan. Lincoln urged McClellan to pursue Lee after the battle at Antietam, but McClellan did not comply. The artwork shows the confidence McClellan held in himself, even to the point of disobeying the President. McClellan had an arrogant demeanor with the President and dismissed Lincoln’s advice.
