Abraham Lincoln, 16th President of the United States (with a facsimile signature)
The Philadelphia Republicans commissioned artist Edward Marchant to paint a portrait of Lincoln to be hung in Independence Hall in 1863. The engraved adaptation of the Marchant painting, shown here, was done in 1864. Note the symbolic broken chain just above Lincoln’s left shoulder.
