Mummy is That of Booth, Chicago Physician Believes
The team of doctors, led by Dr. Orlando F. Scott, looked for several specific Booth features during the examination, including a “disalignment of the right eye-brow, due [to] an injury at sword play”, “a malformed thumb”, and “a broken leg bone sustained in his leap from the presidential box to the stage at Ford’s theater.” Upon examination, the doctors found an upraised eyebrow, as well as a thickening of the right thumb and the left ankle. They also extracted a “metal plaque”, much corroded, with a faint “B” on it. Many, including the team of doctors, believed this was clear evidence that the body was that of John Wilkes Booth. The examination was widely publicized, as demonstrated by this newspaper clipping containing a report by Dr. Scott.
