Booth's Bed Confession
When John St. Helen thought he was dying, he confessed his identity to Bates, saying “I am dying. My name is John Wilkes Booth and I am the assassin of President Lincoln. Get the picture of myself from under the pillow. I leave it with you for my future identification.” The above image is another drawing from "The Escape and Suicide of John Wilkes Booth" and depicts the scene of St. Helen’s confession. St. Helen recovered from his illness and later moved to Enid, Oklahoma under the name David E. George.
