Mary Lincoln
The reception on February 13, 1863, took place just under a year after Willie Lincoln’s death, and for the first time since, Mary Lincoln did not wear a black dress, but a low-necked, pink silk gown. Tad Lincoln, enthralled by the little couple, remarked to his mother that “…if you were a little woman like Mrs. Stratton you would look just like her.” After her duty of entertaining Tom Thumb and Lady was over, Mary Lincoln once again donned her black mourning clothes.
