Robert Todd Lincoln was born August 1, 1843. He was the oldest child of Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln and the only Lincoln child that would survive to adulthood. Far from being simply the son of Abraham Lincoln, Robert experienced great personal and professional success throughout his life and created a legacy of his own without relying on the name of his father. He held several highly influential positions both in the public and private sector and created a legacy of his own without relying on his father's fame.
