The True Issue
This cartoon, another printed during the election of 1864, highlights McClellan as a middle ground for the President of United States and the President of the Confederacy. It shows him holding on to Lincoln and Davis and trying to prevent them from ripping a map of the Union in half. Lincoln is shouting “No Peace without Abolition!” And Davis is responding with “No peace without Separation!” George McClellan is pleading that the “The Union must be preserved at all hazards!”
