His Truth Goes Marching On
Lincoln was the subject of countless political cartoons during his time in politics, both positive and negative. He was depicted as a savior of sorts, a slave worshiper, an uncompromising figure, and as the savior of the African-American race. After his death his legacy only grew, and he became a larger than life figure. In later cartoons he was depicted as one of the great American presidents, second only to Washington, a moral compass and guiding force for other presidents, a preserver of democracy, and a guardian of American life. He continues to be depicted in various cartoons in a largely positive light and remains one of the most revered Americans in history.
