Predigt, gehalten am 19. April 1865, als am Tage des Leichenbeg (Sermon delivered on the 19th at President Lincoln’s Funeral), was given by Rev. Dr. Henry Hochheimer at the Oheb Israel Synagogue in Baltimore, Maryland on April 19, 1865. On this day an estimated 25 million Americans attended memorials for President Abraham Lincoln. Rev. Dr. Henry Hochheimer (1818–1912) was born in the city of Ansbach, located in the German state of Bavaria. Along with so many other German immigrants, he came to the United States in 1848 after the failed German revolution. He later moved to Baltimore, Maryland, where he became the rabbi of the Baltimore Hebrew Congregation (1846-1859), and then later at the Oheb Israel Synagogue (1859–1892). Upon his death on January 26, 1912, Hocheimer was deemed the oldest rabbi in the United States.
