Wendell Phillips

Wendell Phillips (1811-1884) was an orator of the abolition movement. In 1835 he witnessed a mob attack William Lloyd Garrison and from that day forward dedicated his life to abolition. He and Garrison called for the dissolution of the Union long before the Civil War broke out, believing that disunion was the only way to achieve abolition.
