My Bondage My Freedom

Published in 1855, "My Bondage and My Freedom" is an autobiographical slave narrative written by Frederick Douglass. While it is the second of three autobiographies written by Douglass, it expands on his transition from slavery to freedom. Slave narratives became exceedingly important to the abolitionist movement because they provided new first-hand accounts of the horrors of slavery.
