Harriet Beecher Stowe
Harriet Beecher Stowe (1811-1896) was an author and abolitionist. Her most notable work, "Uncle Tom's Cabin," was published in 1852. While the book faced backlash from many pro-slavery Southerners, it brought great renown to Stowe. She applied her fame to aid in the struggle to end slavery. She toured nationally and internationally and spoke not just about her book but also about the horrors of slavery. She then used some of her earnings to help the spread of the abolitionist cause.
