Tad Lincoln in Chicago
Tad and his mother lived in Chicago until 1868, when they departed for an extended tour of Europe. This photograph was taken during that final year in Chicago. Even as Tad aged, he still had the round face and familiar features of his boyhood. Before departing for Europe, Tad and Mary traveled to Washington, DC, to attend Robert’s wedding to Mary Harlan. After the wedding, Tad stayed with the Harlan family and his friend William while his mother made preparations for their voyage.
