Tad Lincoln in 1865
This photograph of Tad was taken in Chicago in 1865, after he and his mother left Washington following Lincoln’s assassination. They moved to Chicago to be near Tad’s brother, Robert, who was establishing himself as a lawyer in the city. The photograph portrays the same round, familiar face the nation had grown to adore after he was photographed with his famous father.
