Description

This hand-colored steel plate engraving features a view of Louisville, Kentucky, in the mid 1800s. The view is slightly three quarters of the right side of the street, with only the signs of the buildings visible on the left side. The largest building on the street is the Louisville Hotel, which contains a first floor, a second floor balcony with white stone columns, and a fourth floor balcony. There are other buildings on either side of the hotel that are lined all the way down the street, including another hotel and a boot store. On the left the viewer can see signs that accompany shops selling wine and other goods. People are shown walking up and down the streets as well as riding on horses and in carriages. "Louisville" is printed in block letters below the image, with publication information below the bottom left and right corners of the image.
