Description

This sepia postcard features a reconstructed blockhouse which is part of Fort McKeen located in Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park near Mandan, North Dakota. After the original Fort McKeen was abandoned in 1891, the buildings were dismantled by local residents to make use of the nails and wood. In 1934, the Civilian Conservation Corps reconstructed the blockhouses and other buildings and built a Visitors Center. The postcard caption is printed along the top edge of the image. The postcard reverse is divided. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
