Description
This color postcard features a reproduction of an original drawing by Gustave Bartsch titled "Lincoln in City Point." The image is unrealistic as President Abraham Lincoln did not ride into City Point triumphantly as the drawing implies. He visited City Point quietly a few days before General Lee surrendered to General Grant ending the Civil War. The artist may have confused President Lincoln's visit to City Point with Lincoln's visit to Richmond, Virginia, after the Confederate government had left the city. The lithograph by F. Hartwich is in the collection of the Chicago Historical Society. The postcard reverse is undivided. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
