Description

This gray-toned print depicts a seated, three-quarter profile portrait of Franklin Pierce. He wears a black suit, black vest, white collared shirt, and a black bowtie. The chair he sits on is elaborately carved, cushioned, and there is fringe at the ends. On his PR, there is a table set up with two books, blank paper, and inkwells, and there is an embroidered tablecloth on the table as well. Pierce carries a feather tipped pen in his PR hand while his PL hand rests on the arm of the chair. The background is dark, and his name, "Frank N Pierce" is written underneath the image. Beneath this is written, "President of the United States," and below that, "This engraving is dedicated to the American People". There's an eagle with olive branches and arrows in between the last line as well.
