Description

This lithograph features a calligraphic head and shoulders portrait of President Abraham Lincoln formed from the handwritten text of the Emancipation Proclamation. The artist wrote parts of the text in bold to form the portrait based on a photograph taken of President Lincoln on February 9, 1864, in Washington, D. C. The text was written to fit inside of the decorative oval border. Above the border the title is printed in a matching arc with decorative swirls on each side. Below the border is Lincoln's name with decorative swirls at each end and the publisher's information in extremely small font below the name.
