Description

This engraving features a head and shoulders portrait of Confederate States Army General Joseph Eggleston Johnston, taken from an undated photograph produced after August of 1861 during Johnston's service in the Civil War. The print, like the photograph, depicts Johnston seated and facing slightly to his right. He is dressed in his Confederate dress uniform, with two rows of circular buttons running vertically up the center of the jacket and a high, gold-trimmed collar decorated with three stars, the badge of a "full general." Johnston is shown balding with a moustache and goatee. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
