Description
This is a political cartoon taken from the French newspaper, "Le Charivari," page 166. It features two American soldiers, one Northern and one Southern, resting as they lean against a large stake in the ground and talking amongst themselves. The stake reads " Ameriques / Nord - Sud"(Americans / North - South). In the distance, there is a crowd of men hoevering around what seems to be a spectacle, and all that is visible is the word "Italie" (Italy). The text below the title reads: _Dites donc si nous profitions de ce que tous les yeux sont tournes vers l'Italie pur nous reposer un peu? Translation: _Say, what if we take advantage of this, all eyes will be turned towards Italy and we can rest a bit? The artist signed the drawing in the lower proper left corner.
