Description

This engraving done from a painting by F. Schell features the President Abraham Lincoln family. President Lincoln is seated in a chair in the center of the image with a book on his lap. His youngest son, Tad, is standing to his left also looking at the book. Mrs. Lincoln is sitting to her husband's right while their oldest son, Robert, is standing behind. A photograph of Willie, the middle son, hangs on the wall in the viewer's upper right corner of the image. The title and publishing information are printed in the lower margin. With the exception of Tad and his father, the Lincoln family never posed together for a photographer or artist. This is a composite print done from combining individual photographs of the family members. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
