Description

This colorful poster announces the 1972 airing of "America: A Personal History," a thirteen-part television series created, written, and narrated by journalist and broadcaster Alistair Cooke. The word "America" is printed in large red font with white outline and blue shadow at the top of the poster. Below this word is the title "America: A Personal History, a Thirteen-part Xerox Television Series on NBC" printed in a much smaller black font. Below the title is a large collage of scenes depicting various events in America's history that would be covered in the series. Below the collage is a description of the series along with the date the series would begin airing on television. On the top half of the reverse side of the poster are the individual images from the collage, each image shown next to the title of the part of the series to which the image belongs. The bottom half of the reverse side is the mailer with an address section and an inner section with a description of the series written by the advertising manager of the Xerox Corporation. The whole poster could be folded into eighths to go through the mail. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
