Description

This poster is a photographic reproduction of the Everett copy of President Abraham Lincoln's speech he gave at the dedication ceremony of the National Cemetery at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, on November 19, 1863. After the event, the Honorable Edward Everett who also spoke during the ceremony requested a copy of Lincoln's speech which Lincoln provided to him. It is one of five known copies written by Lincoln. The title is at the top of the page along with two paragraphs of explanatory text. To the viewer's left of the title and the paragraphs is a portrait of President Lincoln with the caption, "From an original photograph taken in Washington, D. C. on November 8, 1863, by Alexander Gardner." Below the photographic reproduction of Lincoln's speech and to the right is more explanatory text identifying it as the "Keyes" copy sent to Edward Everett by Lincoln. The publisher's information is to the viewer's left along the bottom edge of the paper. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
