Description

This postcard is an advertisement for the Philadelphia and Reading Railroad and features a head and shoulders portrait of President Abraham Lincoln. The text below states that every American should visit Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, the site of the battlefield where President Lincoln delivered his Gettysburg Address at the dedication ceremony for the National Cemetery there on November 19, 1863, which is located on the route of "The Reading." The text also invites the reader to send for the leaflet containing a brief history of "The Battle of Gettysburg" using this card. The postcard reverse is divided. Name and address lines are printed on the left side for ordering the leaflet. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
