Description

This cacheted cover commemorates the centennial anniversary of the day Abraham Lincoln was admitted to practice law in the Illinois Supreme Court. On the left half of the envelope, the cachet printed in pink and purple ink depicts Lincoln's first appearance before the Court. The title printed above the cachet reads "One Hundred Years Ago, on June 6, 1840, Abraham Lincoln Made His first Appearance in the Illinois Supreme Court At Springfield." The caption below the cachet is "Abraham Lincoln Before the Illinois Supreme Court." A postmark reading "Springfield, Ill., Jun 6, 1940, 6 AM" is stamped on the upper center of the envelope. The envelope is addressed to Lincoln Nat'l Life Foundation, Fort Wayne, Indiana. Tucked inside the envelope is a cream-colored folder which contains explanatory text by Theodore S.
