Description
This print is an advertisement announcing the series of four Abraham Lincoln commemorative chachets for which interested parties are invited to subscribe. The cacheted covers were to be mailed directly to the subscriber from the scene of the original events being commemorated. In the top corners of the advertisement are the cachets commemorating the old State House in Vandalia, Illinois, and the first Logan County court house. The title is printed in black ink between the two cachets. A horizontal red line separates the above-mentioned cachets and the printed information about the history and purpose of cachets, the series, and the quality of the printing and the paper used as well as instructions on how to subscribe to the series. Another horizontal red line separates the text from the Calendar of 1939 Events which gives the mailing dates from each Lincoln city related to the cachets. A third red horizontal line separates the Calendar from the two cachets in the lower corners which commemorate the first Menard County court house and Abraham Lincoln at a Springfield Town Council meeting. Centered between the two cachets is the publisher's address. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
