This cacheted cover commemorates the centennial anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's political debate at Jacksonville, Illinois, on March 17, 1840. The title printed above the cachet reads "One hundred years ago, on March 17, 1840, Abraham Lincoln Took Part in a Political Debate at Jacksonville." The caption below the cachet is "Old Morgan County Court House Where Lincoln Spoke." A postmark reading "Jacksonville, Ill., Mar 17, 1940, 9:30 AM" is stamped on the upper center of the envelope. The envelope is addressed to Lincoln Nat'l Life Foundation, Fort Wayne, Indiana. Tucked inside the envelope is a tan-colored folder which contains text by Theodore Charrney describing the debates and the other visits Lincoln made throughout the years to the Morgan County Court House.
