Description

This grey-toned print features two large oval-shaped portraits of George Washington (PR side) and Abraham Lincoln (PL side). In between the portraits is an allegorical figure of Justice who holds a weight in her PR hand and a sword in her PL hand. Above her is an eagle with wings spread holding a scroll in its talons that says "Emancipation Proclamation." To the PR of Washington's portrait in a large American flag, the date "1776," and two soldiers shaking hands while one points towards Washington. Underneath his portrait is the text, "Under this flag He led us to INDEPENDENCE." To the PL of Lincoln are two African American soldiers who shake hands and one holds an American flag and the year "1864". Underneath his portrait is the text, "Under this flag He led us to LIBERTY." In between them at the bottom of the image is the Capitol and the title, "Champions of Liberty" in a banner.
