Description

This color postcard features a view of the Lincoln Memorial statue of President Abraham Lincoln, done by sculptor Daniel Chester French, located in Washington, D. C. President Lincoln is depicted seated in a large stately chair with a large United States flag draped over the back of the chair. Each arm is resting on the chair. His head is tilted slightly downward as if deep in thought. The statue rests on a ten-foot high pedestal. The inscription on the wall behind the statue reads "In this temple as in the hearts of the people for whom he save the Union the memory of Abraham Lincoln is enshrined forever." The postcard reverse is divided. The caption and narrative text are printed on the left side. The number C1861 is printed in the stamp placement block.
