Description

This color postcard features a view of the heroic-sized bronze statue of Abraham Lincoln by sculptor Avard Fairbanks located in New Salem State Park near Petersburg, Illinois. Lincoln is depicted at the point in his life when he was turning from physical labor to the study of law which is shown by the book in his right hand and the axe held in his left hand. He is shown beardless and dressed in frontier-type clothing. The inscription on the front of the pedestal reads "With Malice Toward None" and "Presented to the State of Illinois." The postcard reverse is divided. The caption is printed on the left side. The number C17949 is printed in the stamp placement block.
