- Letter, 24.5 cm, on Letcher & Letcher, Counsellors and Attorneys-at-Law letterhead, seeking assistance in recovering copies of Letcher's papers that were captured at Richmond at the end of the Civil War, with view to publishing the official papers from his time as Governor of Virginia. The originals were destroyed when General David Hunter burned down Letcher's home and the copies' return was promised to Letcher by President Grant.
