Description

This lithograph is plate five in a series of six anti-Lincoln cartoon prints. This print depicts Abraham Lincoln sitting on the ground, his long legs and large feet spread out before him. The words "Military Necessity" are written on the soles of both shoes. "Constitution" and "Habeas Corpus" are written at Lincoln's feet. Text at the top of the composition reads, "Melancholy Accident to a gentleman in high life." A quote bubble reads, "What? Tumbled over them! On'y Straws! In them boots? Them's good boots, lasted high into 4 year and done good service too- 'Pears like there' ginin out fust." The print is also titled across the bottom margin.
