Description

This poster features a reproduction of an original painting of the Mount Rushmore Memorial by Louis Bonhajo on the viewer's left. To the viewer's right are quotations from each of the presidents whose faces are carved on Mount Rushmore. George Washington's letter to the governors of the states, June 8, 1783; Thomas Jefferson's First Inaugural Address, March 4, 1801; Abraham Lincoln's speech at Chicago, December 10, 1856; and Theodore Roosevelt's address at Canegie Hall, March 30, 1912. Information in the caption states that Gutzon Borglum began carving the granite face in the Black Hills of South Dakota in 1927.
