Description

This colored lithograph features head and shoulders portraits of United States Presidents George Washington, Woodrow Wilson, and Abraham Lincoln, respectively. All are located in the bottom half of the image and are shown in oval-shaped frames with President Washington to the viewer's left; President Wilson in the center, and President Lincoln to the viewer's right. Below Washington's portrait is the date 1776, the year of the United States' Declaration of Independence from England. Below Wilson's portrait is 1917, the year he asked Congress to declare war on Germany thus entering the United States into World War I. The text, "The Man of the Hour" is placed above Wilson's portrait. Under Lincoln's portrait is the date 1862, the year he announced the Proclamation of Emancipation to take effect on January 1, 1863. The top half of the print contains two large American flags. The flag to the viewer's left has thirteen stars with text above it that reads "What we fought for in '76." In between the flags is the text, "In God we trust, the stars and stripes FOREVER." To the viewer's right is the flag with 48 stars and the text, "First, last and all the time." The background of the print is blue and white similar to a blue sky with white clouds. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
