Description
This print features a young, beardless Abraham Lincoln walking while reading the book he has open in his right hand. He holds three more books in his left hand. A log cabin, split rail fence, and trees are seen in the background. The text at the bottom of the image reads "New Salem, Illinois, 1831-1837. Student, store keeper, surveyor, soldier, riverman, legislator, post master." The list includes many of the occupations Lincoln had while living in New Salem before he obtained his license to practice as an attorney.
