Description

This is a political cartoon featuring Abraham Lincoln in a pensive posture with his hand rising up towards his chin and gazing downward. His bust is enveloped in a swirling cloud in space that tunnels down towards the earth which is visible in the distance below. The landmass on the earth is labeled "U.S.A.". A quote occupies the negative space in the upper proper left corner, "The occasion is piled high with difficulty, and we must rise with the occasion. As our case is new, so must we think anew, and act anew. / Abraham Lincoln, 1862". The date is handwritten in the upper margin, "Feb. 12, 1986". The artist's signature is at the bottom along with the year. The reverse side contains a small sticker with the artist's name and address.
