Description
This woodcut engraving depicts President-elect Abraham Lincoln speaking to the joint session of senators and legislators in the Hall of the Legislature of Columbus, Ohio, on February 13, 1861. This was one of the several stops made by the inaugural train taking Lincoln from Springfield, Illinois, to Washington, D. C., for his inauguration as President of the United States. The caption reads, "The presidential journey--reception of the President in the Hall of the Legislature of Columbus, Ohio--The Senate and Legislature in joint session.--From a sketch by our special artist traveling in the presidential train."
