- Handwritten letter, 25 cm, headed Lowell, Mass., 27th Nov. 1848 and signed Frank Leathe with 'Hon. Abraham Lincoln' at the base of the letter. Written to the Congressman Lincoln by Leathe, a collector of 'autographs of American Statesmen,' who wants to add Lincoln's signature to his collection because of the 'high position you occupy' and 'you are the only Whig member from your state.' Autograph letter signed (ALS).
- Transcription:
Lowell Mass. 27th Nov. 1848. Sir. I am engaged in collecting the autographs of American Statesmen. The high position you occupy has imparted to me a desire to possess your own. I am particularly anxious to add it to my list as you are the only Whig member from your State. If you should think proper to honor me by noticing this communication, you will confer a favor for which I shall feel grateful. Very respectfully Your obt. servt. Frank Leathe Hon. Abraham Lincoln.
