Description

This large chrimolithograph depicts a scene from the battle of Nashville during the Civil War. Northern soldiers in blue uniforms charge against the Confederacy in gray. Men are strewn about the battle field, some dead on the ground, others with guns and swords ready for action. African American soldiers in blue uniforms charge over a hill on the left. A man with an American flag and a raised sword stands atop the hill in the center. The print is titled in the bottom margin: "Battle of Nashville." A caption in small font under the image reads: "December 15, 16, 17, & 18, 1864. Union (Gen. Thomas) Loss: 400 Kd., 1740 Wd. Conf. (Gen. Hood) Loss: 287 Off., 1524 Kd & Wd. 13, 189 Pris., 72 Guns. Whole Army Routed." Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
